African Messiahs

Africa. Is there no poverty in Europe with its level of advancement? Or we are still suffering from the chains of racial ideology concealed in our minds. Does the white skin color have more riches and wealth in abundance than the black skin color?

The Provincial Governor had us all rallied up at the Provincial Stadium as we waited for her to arrive with the foreign investor from Europe. It was long due for these two Messiahs to arrive for us to be saved from the economic and social bondage we had been facing in our province. The Provincial Governor before she left said that " I am going on a journey to Europe, to bring the investor who will save us from the dire economic situation we are in. Through him and me, the blind shall see, the lame shall walk and our provincial economy shall flourish like that of Europe." It was to happen in our African province. Yes, the Messiahs were to arrive.

It was like the second coming of Jesus Christ. Not knowing when but believing she was to come. Our province had been dead weight after the Provincial Governor left to seek the European investor. Everything had come to a standstill. When she was within our province we did see the blind get blurred eyesight. At least it was something than being blind at all. She created a minor provincial economy for us. Whereby we managed to feast on half a slice of bread than the bread crumbs we had before she became Provincial Governor.

Now with her coming along with the European investor, we were sure she was going to bake for us full loaves of bread and hand them to us. For she cared for us. Did she? If she did not she would not have used her time and personal resources to fly to Europe to seek this investor. Why could we not bake our bread at worst and at best grow the raw materials needed for the bread?

We had our outfits for this day prepared two days after she left. Outfits that cost more than our assets at a personal level. To look presentable in front of the European investor and the Provincial Governor. To show our two Messiahs that we were ready for serious business in our province. By the time the African Messiahs arrived, they only looked new to us and not them. Our province was open for business. Ninety-eight percent of us were illiterate and from that figure, only two percent were educated. We could work as manual laborers within our provincial economy. We were hungry to work. Since the Provincial Governor was gone we could not do anything. All we tried ended up in vain.

Before she left for Europe, she used to spend most of her time in the Provincial office. When we heard she was there in her office, we knew she was supervising us from there and the work had to be done to bring our province to its feet. What if she was not in the office when we thought she was? What if she was working to push her agenda using the privilege of being an African Messiah? What if she was feeding on a dozen loaves herself whilst she made us feed on half a slice? What ridiculous thoughts I was having. Such blasphemy in my mind would lead to me not having a share of the fruits from the trees of life that the African Messiahs were to bring unto us.

A gospel was preached that we would reap our produce very quickly because the European investor had the technology and advanced knowledge that could make trees produce fruit overnight at the earliest and over the week at the latest. It was worth the wait and persecution for these two African Messiahs to come back. But did our wait and patience make us lazy? Did our patience make us passive that the African Messiahs were our only hope and not able to look at ourselves as our saviors? It was the duty of the Messiahs to save us from poverty, provincial economic recession and the ills of the province. Not us. They had more knowledge than we did and that was the reason why they were the Messiahs. Why they worked in highly secured offices for us to see?

What curse were we under? Because the investor was white and came from Europe. Did it mean we would end up being like Europe in our province? Is there no poverty in Europe with its level of advancement? Or we are still suffering from the chains of racial ideology in our minds? Does the white skin color have more riches and wealth in abundance than the black skin color? It is what our Provincial Governor was telling us about going to Europe. Were they not other African investors within our continent who could do equal or more than the one who was to come from Europe? Who cared, as long as the African Messiahs descend today after the long wait? A crossover from bondage in Egypt to the land of milk and honey in Canaan. Then from Canaan to Heaven.

It was the second coming of the African Messiah. Only this time she was not coming alone. She was coming with a superior Messiah to her. Who would end all the injustice, poverty, and suffering we had endured? There's a critical question we forgot to ask ourselves. It was, " Who was solely responsible for the injustice, poverty and suffering in our province?" Was it not the African Messiah from our province? No. It was we who failed to take care of ourselves and needed The Messiahs to cleanse us of our sins.

We were impatiently waiting for the motorcade to come down blazing in our province. Which were to be a sign of winds of change. When were we to start driving our motor vehicles too? When the

Messiahs would deliver us to the promised land and make us all be able to fully function. Could we not do it on our own with what we had? No, we could not, only the blessings of the African Messiahs could get us to that. Could we not work with what we had to move us to the next level and then work to propel ourselves at a personal level?

No, we could not, faith in our two African Messiahs would get us to the bread without planting and harvesting the wheat. Neither were we to process the wheat to produce flour and make bread. The Messiahs would just call us to the table to have our share of sliced bread because it is what they told us would happen shortly if we kept on having faith in them. After laboring for some time. We were just to work to prepare the feasting table and wait for our share to be equally distributed by the Messiahs.

Finally, the sounds of the siren could be heard from a distance. The sounds of the motorcades could be heard. Helicopters were beginning to show their presence above us. Something which had never happened in our province since I began to know of their existence through the media. A human tunnel was formed to welcome them but it was quickly dispersed by the Provincial State Security agents. To order everyone into the Provincial Stadium. The people quickly flooded their seats and piled up on each other to fit. This was it. Our saviors were here. We prayed our outfits would not only match the occasion but reflect our faithfulness to the Messiahs.

Each car that was part of the motorcade which entered our Provincial Stadium was worth more than what our provincial economy produced. Yet we were told these cars were purchased by the provincial economy income. A rumor that was circulated by the Anti-Christs of our province. Who were enemies of progress being brought by the Messiahs. Such rumors and propaganda were signs to show the end of the times for poverty which the Anti-Christ and Anti-Messiahs wanted to peddle to stifle progression.

The provincial economy couldn't purchase such cars because we could not purchase them. We waited anxiously for them to alight from the car because carrying our burdens had left us spineless. They did come out and headed straight to the podium. Only something was amiss.

We could see the Provincial Governor and the Provincial Officials on stage waiting to address us. No white man from Europe was present. Where was the other Messiah superior to ours? Who was to make trees produce fruit overnight? Maybe the Messiah from Europe was still in the car and we had to all kneel for him or herself to come out. The Provincial Governors' words made my mind explode. Not only mine but most of the people in the stadium too. She said, " Our European investor could not come because he had to serve other business interests somewhere else and his travel documents are still being processed in the system. We hope the European investor comes soon. When I was away......"

The Provincial Governor was not the African Messiah but the Anti-Christ equivalent to the Anti-African Messiah. She was not going to save us. Whilst the Provincial Governor was claiming to have been looking for a European investor, she was investing our provincial income and assets in Europe. The same income and assets she was supposed to use to develop our province. She was looking for where to invest not to whom would want to invest in the province. She was the cause of the dire economic strains in the province. Due to her greed and corruption in embezzling provincial funds. No wonder why she could purchase such cars and live in Europe for such a long time. She was not there on diplomatic terms but for tourism and personal business.

She was giving the blind glasses for them to believe they will see and for us to believe the blind shall see through the glasses. And we did believe. We were never going to work in the field to produce wheat and make bread. We were going to be fed half slices if not bread crumbs again. Could we sell our outfits for us to have the next meal which we were expecting the African Messiahs to feed us? Knowing very well no one in our province had the money to purchase them, for the majority of us were living next to nothing.

How where we going to become like Europe then? Having trees that could bear fruit overnight like in Europe. The African Messiahs had failed to come back effectively for their second coming. What was our solution after this failure?

Independence.

  11. Excellent piece of writing. This is a true reflection of African leadership. We are not going anywhere as a continent if we entirely depend on Europe and America for our economic development.

    Well written Asher.
Africa has a habit of making nad friends and bad decisions. The ideology of most African states is to keep the masses uneducated and ignorant. This concept was largely taken from the Marxist ideoly...as seen in Cambodia, the USSR, North Korea, etc. While African countries favour regimes in Russia, North Korea, China and Libya who DO NOTHING FOR THEM smarter former colonies like Singapore chose to embrace their former colonial masters and keep what worked and added what worked better. Singapore is a tiny country but very wealthy. Unlike Africans that make bad friends to spite their former rulers Singapore smartly showed their former rulers they could do things better. It all about choice. .

Thank you for the privilege of reading you work. Keep going....you are a smart young man. I hope you are chosen as a leader of people one day.
